What does Net Zero actually mean?
‘Net Zero’ will be achieved when all greenhouse gas emissions released by human activities are counterbalanced by the removal of greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere. Essentially, Net Zero means the zeroing-out of emissions through ‘carbon removal’.
By reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in the first place, less carbon removal efforts are required to achieve Net Zero. That makes investing in clean and renewable energy, such as solar energy such an important step in the Net Zero journey.
How Solar Lights Help You Achieve Net Zero
Street Lighting was found to be the single largest source of carbon emissions from local governments typically accounting for 30-60% of total emissions. Source: Street and Public Lighting | Energy Rating
Off Grid Solar Lights have Net Zero emissions from when they are installed. They produce no greenhouse gas emissions as they rely only on solar energy during their operation.
Solar lighting isn’t only good for the environment, it also reduces mains power usage costs and helps increase community safety.
Your Project Can Achieve Net Zero Emissions
Over the past 11 years, Green Frog Systems has helped prevent unnecessary carbon emissions from projects across the world by installing solar lights on streets, pathways, highways, parks, parking lots, jetties and more.
If these projects had opted for grid-based lighting then they would have contributed to large quantities of greenhouse gasses. Choosing solar lighting means that the lights do not have to draw electricity from the grid helping your project to achieve Net Zero.
Here are some examples of city and regional councils around the world who have started their journey to a net zero future.
