Home / glossary / exciton

Exciton:In physics, an exciton is a bound state of an electron and an hole which are attracted to each other by their electrostatic force. Excitons are important in semiconductor physics because they are responsible for carrying electrical current through materials like solar cells. Excitons are also responsible for luminescence, which is why they are important in lighting applications.
