PV cells: A photovoltaic cell (also called a solar cell) is a devices that converts light into electricity. PV cells are made up of semiconductor materials like silicon and germanium. When light hits the cell, it creates an electric field across the semiconductor material that causes electrons to flow through the material creating an electric current.
