thin semiconductor films

Home / glossary / thin semiconductor films

A thin semiconductor film is a layer of semiconductor material that is typically just a few atoms thick. These films are used in a variety of electronic and optoelectronic devices, such as solar cells, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and semiconductor lasers. The main advantage of using thin films is that they can be deposited on a wide variety of substrates, including glass, metal, and plastic. This allows for the fabrication of devices with very complex shapes and geometries. Additionally, thin films can be used to create devices with multiple layers of different materials, which can be used to create more sophisticated devices with improved performance.
