Background

International lighting project recently completed in the United Kingdom at Pontesbury– one of the largest villages in Shropshire and the village of Minsterley. This project was supplied and managed by Acrospire solutions– Exclusive UK suppliers of the co-developed Defender-55 solar lights – the only solar light in the world specifically developed for the UK’s limited solar yield.

Solution

Their client required a lighting solution that would encourage after hours use by improving safety along a popular cycle path, often used by the local factory workers. With no power between the two villages, Acrospire worked with Highline Electrical to provide PIR pedestrian-activated solar-powered lighting. The Defender luminaire, with an incorporated 32W solar panel and an additional panel of 32W, achieved all the project requirements. Including meeting the required light levels (UK) : BSEN 13201 P5, even at 30M spacings.

Result

As well as improving safety, increasing the use of this pathway will also contribute to the carbon reduction ambitions of both councils. Counsellor Duncan Fletcher, Chair of the joint working group, said, “the use of solar lighting was an integral part of achieving a sustainable, cost-effective solution, improving this essential route connecting the villages.”

Special thanks to Acrospire for the photography and allowing us to share this project!
