Improved lighting was required for a pathway at Evanston Gardens in South Australia. Running parallel to the A20 Gawler Bypass Rd, the pathway connects a railway pedestrian crossing to residential areas at the end of Angle Vale Rd. [view location on google maps]. The pedestrian thoroughfare had 3 existing lights installed that were getting old and were no longer adequate. The Gawler Town Council made the decision to improve the safety of this pathway by ensuring it was illuminated to the appropriate lighting standard (PP4 Classification for this location)

The proposed solution for this location was the Defender-55 all in one pole top solar light. This light was selected because of the flexibility it offers. Custom operating profiles were programmed prior to the installation that deliver elevated lighting levels in the early evenings when there is high foot traffic then dim to a low level standby mode for the rest of the night (until dawn).

One of the key components that made the Defender-55 an attractive solution is that it is fitted with twin high performance Panasonic PIR motion sensors that detect movement from 8-10 meters away from each side of the light pole. When either of the PIR sensors is triggered the light level boosts up to full brightness. This full power boost mode remains active until 30 seconds after the movement is no longer detected within the detection zone.
