Background

  • The City of Playford, a local government area of South Australia in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, approached Green Frog Systems for a custom off-grid solar powered signage display for the Elizabeth Centre. The Elizabeth City Centre is the third biggest shopping centre in the state and required a new internally lit sign to be visible from the main highway that passes the centre. The sign was very large, at 6m high and 1.5m wide, internal battery storage was preferred and the solar panels could not be large or obtrusive.

Solution

  • Green Frog Systems provided the solution of a completely independent solar energy harvest and storage system, without any obtrusive panels or external battery boxes. The solution included Green Frog Systems Brand High-Performance LED tube system and solar charge controllers, along with low profile but high impact 50W solar panels. The panels incorporated vandal resistant housing and a custom mounting bracket to attach to the top of the sign – while remaining low profile and reducing the risk of damage. We also provided custom system tuning for optimal solar conversion and maximum lumen output pet watt of electricity captured from the sun.

Outcome

  • We were able to provide a solution for the City of Playford that met all their requirements, with a total system power consumption of a mere 44 Watts. The City of Playford has been consistently impressed by Green Frog Systems and our solutions, leading to repeated business including the Palms Residential Village.
